Travel : Redang Island Holidays

Thanks to the wonderful team from booking side and all at the resort end, we had a very relaxing holiday in the sun, sea and songs serenading us every night.

Being the second time holidaying there, we can only say the team at the resort is very professional, sharp and efficient. The resort, Redang Beach Resort runs like clockwork from check-in, room placement, meal times and departure times. At all times, they radiate efficiency in an effortless and caring manner.

When we arrived at the beginning of March 2016, the new season has just begun. Annually, the island business had closed during the monsoon season from November to February. The sea water is still rocking rough. I had a miserable time on board when going and returning, making numerous trips to the toilet on board the ferry. It was a 2-hour ferry boat ride each way. Ooh, my wake up call for me to up my ante on my personal health; our bodies never lie.

Redang island lives up to all the praises of paradise this side of the planet in South East Asia.
For those who are adventurous enough to drive (from Kuala Lumpur we started the journey), here are a few tips for a smooth ride.

1) The destination for you is the ferry boarding area called Syahbandar Jetty. To arrive at this jetty, set the GPS to Terminal Penumpang Kuala Terengganu because this is the local name that GPS is able to locate correctly. If you input the location as Syahbandar jetty, it does not come out on GPS correctly and tends to mislead you to Melaka or some other places ! The jetty is located on Jalan Sultan Zainal Abidin, 20200, Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu.
It is on the same row as the wet market (called Pasar Payang) and opposite the post office.

2) There are many open air public car parks and a few covered car parks inside some buildings there. The rates won't be the same.

3) To make sure that petrol tank is Always Full, because throughout the whole highway after the initial 2 Petronas kiosks, there are no petrol stations along the highway for more than 200km unless you want to exit the highway to another town to pump petrol and come back in on the highway. The next option is to stop and call highway toll free 1800-88-0220 for assistance to bring you the required amount of petrol (in Ringgit Malaysia). the wait is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes as the staff needs to purchase the petrol and fill it up inside a plastic or fiberglass container and deliver it to you. Excellent service with a smile !

4) The drive from Kuala Lumpur to Syahbandar Jetty takes approximately 6 hours, but with pit stops for toilet breaks, snacks, and refreshing of bodies, it will take 8 hours comfortably!

5) We were also very glad that we packed snacks from petrol stations (Shell and Petronas) on the way which consisted of banana chips (Akuku brand), honey lemon green tea (Oishi brand) and a flask of hot masala tea from home. It's like going to the movies when our adventure began to unfold from 2:00am !

6) Thanks for the Reservation Dept's advice, we booked a later ferry boarding time of 10:30 am, as we had just enough time to park and breakfast.

7) Bringing along the mineral water (2 small bottles and 2 big bottles) is useful as we could re-use the bottles for refilling water from the dining area. They allowed us to refill filtered & boiled drinking water.

We liked the room very much and look forward to more delightful stays there in the future !

Good job, Ice of Reservation Team !
